Dumb action movie set in a gang-infested Los Angeles of the near future (1997
actually!). Danny Glover (of Lethal Weapon fame) is a cop who has
to cope with both drug gangs and an alien (the "Predator" of the title)
killing them off and collecting their skulls as trophies. "He's in town with
a few days to kill," as the movie poster proclaimed!
That Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't bother reprising his role from
the previous Predator (1987) movie for this sequel should be a dead give
away. Lots of violence and gore. Despite a fine moment of movie intertextuality
as it is revealed that the Predator has an alien (from the Alien movies) skull
as a trophy, this movie is an otherwise predictable and repetitive affair. Awfully
derivative too, as we have seen this sort of thing in countless other movies.
For example, the interior of the Predator's space ship closely resembles the interior
of the alien ship whose distress signals the crew in the first Alien (1979)
movie intercepted and where they discover the alien eggs.
Not to mention improbable as Glover gets slugged around a hell of a lot by
the Predator. Bit like Schwarzenegger in the previous film I suppose...
